Virgínia Fróis

Virgínia Fróis (Rio Maior, 1954) is the founder of the association Oficinas do Convento (1996) in Montemor-o-Novo and of the Trás di munti Arts and Crafts Centre (2009) in Cape Verde. She carries out activities in the field of ethno-ceramics, especially the Air in the Sea project (2006 to 2014). She has exhibited in Portugal and abroad, including (E)vocações at the Alcobaça Monastery (2003), the Ressonâncias project in Brazil (2012), and Cidadãos (2017) at the Azulejo Museum in Lisbon and the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Madrid, and WAH at the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation in Évora (2018).
She participated in the Aveiro Biennial of Artistic Ceramics (2019) as guest artist, the Guizos project, and with the programme of the International Seminar: Participatory Processes and CERAMICS and was the editor of the book (2019/21). She organises the workshop Forno à Inglesa at Pomarinho dos Monges, Montemor-o-Novo (2020/21).
She has recently participated in the exhibitions: MATER at the Pavilhão Branco Galerias Municipais CM Lisboa, EGEAC/OC (2023), and ARTE no FEMININO: 10 anos, 10 artistas, as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the University of Lisbon (2024).
She is researching the clays and pottery of the island of Santa Maria in the Azores, where she will organise a research residency programme (science and art) from 2024.
