Victor Palla

Victor Palla (Lisbon, 1922-2006) was a Portuguese architect, designer, publisher, photographer, and artist. He graduated in architecture from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts in 1945 and stood out as a versatile and innovative figure in 20th-century Portuguese culture.
In partnership with Bento d'Almeida, he carried out architectural projects that contributed to the modernisation of architecture in Portugal. As an editor, he directed important publications such as the magazine Arquitetura and co-authored the photographic book Lisboa, Cidade Triste e Alegre (1959).
In painting and ceramics, he took part in national and international exhibitions, including II Exposição Geral de Artes Plásticas, Lisbon (1946); Exposição de Arte Portuguesa Contemporânea, Paris (1948); III Exposição Geral de Artes Plásticas, Lisbon (1950); Exposição Universal de Bruxelas, Brussels (1958); Exposição de Artes Plásticas da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon (1961); and a solo exhibition at the Galeria de S. Mamede, Lisbon (1980).
In 1946, he founded the Galeria Divulgação, a space dedicated to promoting artistic initiatives that resisted the Estado Novo. His legacy has had a profound influence on art, architecture, and culture in Portugal.
