Sebastião Resende

Sebastião Resende (1954) graduated from ESBAP/University of Porto (1973-1978) and received a master's from Tama Art University, Tokyo (1984-1987).
During these years he also attended the classes of Kazuo Ohno, the founder of Butoh (dance/theatre). He is one of the founding members of the Sismógrafo space in Porto.
His solo exhibitions include Quando Se Extinguiram O Espaço Ficou Vazio, Casa das Artes, Porto (2019); Sobre a Terra Fendida Uma Chama, Museu da Guarda (2018); Neste Ninho de Vespas, Sismógrafo, Porto (2017); Fecit Potentiam, Sismógrafo, Porto (2014); The Lying Chair, Galeria Quadrado Azul, Lisbon (2010); Naufrágio Pluma, Galeria Quadrado Azul, Porto (2009); Tem nos Olhos o Tempo Simultâneo, O Espaço do Tempo, Montemor-o-Novo (2007); Sem Título Tranquilo III, Galeria Quadrado Azul, Porto (2003).
His work is included in the collections of the Serralves Foundation, the Modern Art Centre of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the PLMJ Foundation, Bentlage Monastery, Rheine (Germany), and the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi (Italy). In 2017 he was awarded the Amadeu de Souza-Cardoso Grand Prize.
