Rui Matos

Rui Matos (Lisbon, 1959) lives and works near Sintra. He studied Sculpture at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes in Lisbon and received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1993.
His first solo exhibition was in 1987, in Lisbon, featuring slate sculptures. This was followed by Primeira Ilha and Mediterrâneo, with cast bronze sculptures. His first stone exhibition was in 1991, Enormidade, Sequência e Naufrágio, followed by Transformações - Relatos Incertos, Objetos de Memória, and Histórias Incompletas. In 2008, he began working with iron, creating exhibitions such as A Pele das Coisas, Transformo-me no que toco, De Dentro, and Transmutações.
His work is represented in collections such as Caixa Geral de Depósitos, the PLMJ Foundation, and the Dr. Santos Rocha Museum in Figueira da Foz.
