Olívia da Silva (1962) currently works as a coordinating professor with tenure in polytechnic higher education. Since 2008, she has been Director of the Department of Photography, Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimedia at the School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE) of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. She has a degree, a master's degree, and a doctorate, and has been working on a post-doctorate in photography at the European Researcher Centre of Photography since 2008. Since 1992, she has been a member of the teaching staff at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, where she teaches courses in Contemporary Photography, Project, and Specialisation. In 2009, she presented the series Presente na Cerimónia (Present at the Ceremony), part of the collection of the Hospital de São João in Porto and exhibited at the Portuguese Centre for Photography. She also actively participates in curatorial projects, such as co-curating exhibitions at the Solar Gallery of Cinematographic Art, in partnership with Curtas-Metragens de Vila do Conde. She has been a member of ESMAE's Scientific Council since 2008 and collaborates in interdisciplinary initiatives such as the Discursos e Olhares sobre o Sentido da Imagem meetings, organised in partnership with FNAC. Her exhibition projects include Vai à Janela and In the Net. With extensive experience as a photographic consultant, she has collaborated with the Museu do Carro Elétrico and STCP on conservation and photographic archive initiatives. She is also a freelance writer specialising in documentary and portrait photography.
