Mariana Viegas lives and works in Berlin, focusing on photography and video that explore the relationship between individuals and nature, as well as the resulting construction of landscapes. She studied Photography and Fine Arts at Ar.Co in Lisbon. She was awarded scholarships from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Luso-American Development Foundation to participate in the Location One program in New York in 2005/06. In 2008, she took part in the GlougauAIR residency in Berlin. Her notable solo exhibitions include ILHA at AppletonSquare, Lisbon (2010); Inside/Outside Nature at IAC-Berlin (2008); and Fuga at Vera Cortês Agência de Arte, Lisbon (2007). Selected group exhibitions include Do Outro Lado Do Atlântico at Centro de Artes Hélio Oiticica, Rio de Janeiro (2010); Souvenir at Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, Berlin (2009); Parangolé at Museo Patio Herreriano, Valladolid (2008); XX at CAV-Centro de Artes Visuais, Coimbra (2006); Archeology of New York at the Korean Cultural Center, New York (2006); and Cluster at Participant Inc., New York (2006).Her work is part of collections including Banco Espírito Santo, Fundação Ilídio Pinho, the PLMJ Foundation, Centro de Artes Visuais - CAV, Museu da Imagem, Troia Design Hotel, and IPLB. Since 2008, she has taught Photography Editing at Atelier de Lisboa.
