Maria Lusitano

Maria Lusitano (Lisbon, 1971) is an artist living and working in London, where she moved in 2011. She has a degree in Medicine (University of Coimbra), a degree in Fine Arts from Ar.Co, Lisbon, and an MA in Fine Arts from Malmö Art Academy, Sweden. In 2015, she completed her doctorate in Fine Arts at the University of Westminster, London.
She has exhibited at international events such as Manifesta 5, Photo Espana 6, the 29th São Paulo Biennial and others. Her work has been exhibited in art spaces such as Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Joshibi University, Tokyo (2010); Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Ireland (2013); Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea de Portugal (2018); Museu MAAT, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (2019); and various other museums and art galleries. She has received scholarships such as the Edstranska Stiefeltse Swedish Art Scholarship, the Calouste Gulbenkian Scholarship and the Foundation for Science and Technology Scholarship.
Selected collections: Victoria and Albert Museum Artist Book Collection, Georges Pompidou Artist Book Collection, MoMA Artist Book Collection, EDP Foundation, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, PLMJ Foundation. Her work is also in the collections of private collectors such as Prof. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa (the current President of Portugal) and António Cachola.
