Manuel Botelho

Manuel Botelho (Lisbon, 1950) studied at SNBA and ESBAL between 1967 and 1983, and completed his degree in architecture in 1976. Between 1983 and 1987, he was a Gulbenkian Foundation grant holder in London, where he held his first exhibition at the Gulbenkian. He is known for the public installation Luz e Cor in Lisbon (1994).
Notable solo exhibitions include Um Olhar sobre a Cidade at Casa da Cerca (2006) and Imagens e Ideias at Galeria Raffaelli (2014). In group exhibitions, he participated in the Venice Biennale (2009), Experiência de um Lugar at the EDP Foundation (2016), and Arte Contemporânea Portuguesa at the Museu do Chiado (2017).
His work is part of the collections of Museu do Chiado, Gulbenkian Foundation, EDP Foundation, and PLMJ Foundation. He received awards from the International Association of Art Critics in 1987 and the EDP Foundation in 2018. He was an assistant professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, from 1995 to 2020.
