Kiluanji Kia Henda

Angola

Kiluanji Kia Henda (Angola, 1979) lives and works in Lisbon and Luanda.
His work uses art as a means to transmit and construct history, addressing the complexity of issues such as identity, politics and perceptions of post-independence and modernity in Africa.
In recent years, his work has been included or commissioned at 60th Venice Biennale, Venice; Manifesta15, Barcelona; Serpentine Galleries, London; House of World Cultures (HKW); Centre George Pompidou, Paris; Migros Museum, Zurich; International Film Festival Rotterdam; 2nd Lubumbashi Biennale, Lubumbashi; 12th Gwangju Biennale, Gwangju; Tate Modern, London; Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; 3rd New Museum Triennial, New York; 11th Dakar Biennale, Dakar; among others.
In 2012 Kia Henda was awarded the National Prize for Culture and Art by the Angolan Ministry of Culture, in 2017 he won the Frieze Artist Award and in 2019 he was selected for the Unlimited Basel project.
