José Francisco Azevedo

José Francisco Azevedo (Horta, Azores, 1944) holds a degree in Romance Literature from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon. He was a secondary school teacher.
He began his career as a photographer at Galeria Ether/Vale tudo menos tirar olhos, where he had his first exhibition: Revelações, 1990. Between 1991 and 2002 he held solo and group exhibitions in Lisbon (Galeria Diferença), Porto (Galeria Imagolucis), Coimbra (XIV Encontros de Fotografia), Antwerp (Europália 91), Tarbes (Galeria E), Córdoba (Galeria Diafragma Foto), Ville du Mans, Saumur, among others. His photographs have been published in the magazines Colóquio Letras and Diafragma Foto, as well as in Linha do Oeste (Assírio & Alvim, 1998). His pictures have been on the cover of: Telhados de Vidro (2007), A Caixa Negra, by Josep M. Rodríguez (2009), Este livro escuro, by John Mateer (2012), A Perspetiva da Morte: 20 (-2) Poetas Portugueses do Século XX (anthology edited by Manuel de Freitas, Assírio & Alvim, 2009).
