José Carlos Teixeira

Born in Porto in 1977, he lives and works in the USA. He attended the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Porto and continued his studies in Bilbao, New York and Los Angeles. Lewis Center for the Arts (Princeton), Württembergischer Kunstverein (Stuttgart), DAZ, Berlinerpool, Rosalux (Berlin), Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin (Paris), National Centre for Contemporary Art (Moscow), M. K. Ciurlionis National Museum (Kaunas), Centro de Arte Hélio Oiticica (Rio de Janeiro), Centro Cultural de São Paulo (São Paulo), Fundação Oriente (Macau), EDP Museum, Gulbenkian Foundation, CAM, Fundação Carmona e Costa, Goethe-Institut (Lisbon), among others. He is represented in several collections, including the Gulbenkian Modern Art Centre, PLMJ, EDP Foundation, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Rio Art Museum (Paulo Reis Fund). He was awarded the Jury Prize at the 2011 Fuso Festival and participated in the EDP New Artists Award in 2005. In recent years, he has participated in various artist residencies including Akademie Schloss Solitude, MacDowell Colony and Headlands Centre for the Arts. He is currently a lecturer in the Department of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA).
