José António Quintanilha (Lisbon, 1968) developed his artistic training at Ar.Co and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. In 2019, he was awarded the Vila Franca de Xira Photography Biennial Prize (BF18).In his photographic practice, he focuses on the concept of “marks,” understood as the traces left by time and human experiences on space. His images capture objects “suspended” in time, evoking an ambiguous atmosphere where the familiar intersects with the unfamiliar. These elements allow his photographs to be interpreted as fragments of a broader narrative, exploring memory and transformation while challenging the viewer to reconsider the value of objects and the nature of reality.
