Jorge Dias was born in 1972 in Maputo, where he currently lives and works. In 1992, he completed the Intermediate Ceramics Course at the National School of Visual Arts. His growing interest in visual arts led him to study Sculpture at the School of Fine Arts, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, from 1997 to 2002. He returned to Mozambique in 2002 and joined a group of artists to establish the Contemporary Art Movement of Mozambique (MUVART), aiming to stimulate the production, theorisation, and circulation of contemporary art in Mozambique.
He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Mozambique, South Africa, São Tomé and Príncipe, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Germany, England, and the USA. From 2007 to 2010, he served as a curator at the National Museum of Art; from 2010 to 2017, he was the director of the National School of Visual Arts; and from 2017 to 2018, he was the deputy national director of the National Museum of Art. In 2018, Jorge Dias participated in the group exhibition O Estado das Coisas, inaugurated at Camões Berlin.
