Francisco Pinheiro

Francisco Pinheiro lives and works in Lisbon. He holds a degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon and a master's in Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied as a Fulbright/Carmona e Costa scholar. Notable exhibitions and participations include TISANAS - Infusões para tempos próximos, Centro de Artes da Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, Évora (2022); Por um lugar nosso comum, Pavilhão Branco, Lisbon (2020); Appleton Box, Lisbon (2019); 4th edition of Lisboa Soa, Lisbon (2019); FUSO – Annual International Video Art of Lisbon (2019); Os Índios da Meia-Praia, Galeria 111, Lisbon (2016); and The Sand Reckoner, Diego Rivera Gallery, San Francisco (2013).
A highlight of his career was the artistic residency at the Kendall College of Art and Design (Michigan), which resulted in the installation Grand River, presented in the group exhibition CITY FLUX: Art, Architecture & Grand Rapids at ArtPrize 8. He is a member of Guarda Rios, a collective dedicated to research and creation around riverside territories, through which he has created, coordinated, and produced various projects.
Since 2021, he has been teaching Public Art in the Fine Arts degree program at ESAD – Escola Superior de Artes e Design (Caldas da Rainha). In 2013, he was a teaching assistant for artist Laetitia Sonami in the Sonic City Sound Lab class at the San Francisco Art Institute. In 2008, he worked as a scenography assistant at the Volksbühne Theatre in Berlin, contributing to productions by Meg Stuart, Frank Castorf, Jonathan Meese, and Thiago Bortolozzo.
