Completed the full curriculum at Ar.Co, Lisbon. He was awarded a scholarship by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to study at the Royal College of Art, London, and completed the Meisterschüler program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf, Germany. He uses portraiture as a central theme in his work, exploring the complexity it involves, such as issues of identity, representation, and memory.
He has exhibited solo since 1999, with notable works including Retratos de Alfama at the Municipal Archive of Lisbon; A Nova Geração at the Modern Art Centre of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; Retratos de Homens at Galeria Luis Serpa, Lisbon; Retratos dos Túmulos dos Reis de Portugal at Galeria Carlos Carvalho, Lisbon; Retratos de Sombras at the Berardo Museum/BES Photo Prize; and Retratos de Incógnitos at the Caramulo Museum.
His work is included in collections such as CAM, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris; the PLMJ Foundation, Lisbon; European Central Bank, Frankfurt; Novo Banco, Portugal; the EDP Foundation, Portugal, among others.
