Cristina Mateus was born in Porto (1968), where she lives and works. She studied painting at ESBAP. Since 1986, she has developed an intense and regular artistic activity, both individually and in collaboration with other authors, in areas as diverse as painting, sculpture, photography, video, multimedia and others. In June 2003, she defended her Master's thesis in Multimedia Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, where she teaches. She is co-founder of the Virose Organisation.
She has taken part in the following exhibitions: No dia seguinte está o agora, 60 anos do Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra, CAPC, Coimbra, 2018- 2019; Ver as vozes dos artistas, Maus Hábitos/Metro do Porto, Porto, 2018.
She took part in the EDP Foundation's Public Art programme in the north-east of Trás-os-Montes (Mogadouro). She is represented in various public and private collections, such as: Portugal Telecom, the Serralves Foundation, the Ivo Martins Collection, the Berardo Collection, the PLMJ Foundation, and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
