Cecília Costa was born in Caldas da Rainha (1971) and lives and works in Lisbon. She graduated in Visual Arts from ESAD (Escola Superior de Artes e Design) in Caldas da Rainha and also attended the Mathematics course at the University of Aveiro. The artistic research carried out by Cecília Costa is based on an investigation of mathematical aspects and symmetry, particularly focusing on the left and right division of the brain. She has been exhibiting regularly since 1997, with a notable participation in the Sydney Biennale, selected by curator Isabel Carlos (2004). Cecília Costa's work is represented in the collections of the PLMJ Foundation, the Leal Rios Foundation, and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. In 2018, she was part of the group exhibition O Estado das Coisas – works from the PLMJ Foundation collection, which opened at Camões Berlin.
