António Carrapato (Regluing’s de Monsaraz, 1966) began his career in the 1990s, photographing for leading Portuguese newspapers. Alongside this, he developed an authorial body of work, crafting a temporality of meaningful coincidences with a distinctive sense of humour. Working in the rural landscapes of Alentejo and in international urban contexts, he uses his keen observational skills to create a visual universe where the relationship between humans and their surroundings reveals subtle ironies or absurd coincidences. He studied photography at Ar.Co and has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Aldeias Gamesa at the Museu da Aldeia da Luz (2013); Riso at the EDP Foundation (2012); and Nós at the Museu de Évora (2009). More recently, his work featured in the exhibition Grupo de Évora, which debuted at the Pequena Galeria in Lisbon and later travelled to Sines (Centro Cultura Emérito Nunes) and Évora (Palácio D. Manuel) in 2013. His photographic work has been included in various publications, such as Planeta Ovibeja (2008), Arte na Fundação Luso-Brasileira (2007), and Extensão do Olhar, Uma antologia visual da fotografia portuguesa contemporânea (2005), published by the PLMJ Foundation.
