Albano Silva Pereira (Coimbra, 1950) is known for his role as director, from 1985, of the Encontros de Fotografia and, since the beginning of 2002, of the Centro de Artes Visuais (CAV), as well as his career in cinema and photography. He was an assistant director and worked in other capacities with various national filmmakers, including Manoel de Oliveira, António-Pedro Vasconcelos, and João Botelho.
As a photographer, his series on travel stand out, especially in African territories (Sahara Desert) and the Americas (Atacama Desert and Sonoran Desert), shown in venues such as the Centro de Arte Moderna at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, the Casa de Serralves in Porto, as well as the Espace Contretype in Brussels and the Centre Méditerranéen de la Photographie in Corsica.
